KT&G (CEO Min Young-jin) said that it will donate 100 million to the Philippines, which suffered enormous damage from Typhoon Haiyan.

At a donation ceremony held at the head office of the Korean Red Cross (in Jung-gu, Seoul) on November 27, KT&G Director of the Sustainable Management Office Kim Tae-seop and the Governor of the Korean Red Cross Yu Jung-geun and others were present. The donation will be used to provide relief to and restore the stricken area through the Korean Red Cross.

A KT&G official said, “It makes me deeply emotional to think that we are able to provide this timely support to the Philippines, which sent 7,000 soldiers to us at the time of the 625 Korean War,adding that we hope Filipinos suffering the worst of the typhoon will get their hope back as soon as possible through prompt restoration.

KT&G has provided support with donations whenever large-scale disasters occurred overseas, such as the Great Hanshin Earthquake in 2011 and the Great Sichuan Earthquake this year. It has also actively performed overseas relief activities such as sending a volunteer group to Cambodia, one of the poorest countries, and providing medical services in Indonesia.
