665 The KT&G Scholarship Foundation, Surpassing 10,000 Cumulative Scholarship Recipients: "Building a Better Future through Education" 2024.02.08
The KT&G Scholarship Foundation has continuously expanded its scholarship programs in the fields of education and culture and arts, surpassing 10,000 cumulative scholarship recipients by the end of last year since its establishment in 2008. The cumulative amount of scholarship support reaches 43.5 billion KRW.

The KT&G Scholarship Foundation is conducting various scholarship programs domestically and internationally to support underprivileged groups in education and foster future talents. In particular, it has been operating the "Sangsang Scholarship Program" since 2011, selecting economically disadvantaged but academically excellent students from middle and high schools as well as universities and providing them with scholarships, thereby realizing educational equal opportunities.

Furthermore, it is also implementing scholarship programs for students in special circumstances requiring social protection. Through the "Hope Connection Scholarship Program," it supports the education of adolescents who are not receiving care at home but are living in protective facilities. Additionally, it operates the "Sangsang Restart Scholarship Program" for adolescents in juvenile facilities with exemplary attitudes, providing scholarships for educational and living support purposes such as preparing for the high school equivalency exam and obtaining qualifications.

In addition, through the Cultural and Arts Scholarship Program, we are assisting the growth of outstanding talents in the arts and physical education fields. Pianist Lim Yunchan, who was selected as a Cultural and Arts Scholarship Student by the KT&G Scholarship Foundation in 2017 and received support for three years, achieved the feat of winning the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2022, becoming the youngest winner in history. Jeon Jiyul, selected for the Ballet Master Class program aimed at nurturing talent in the ballet field, obtained the opportunity to audition for the Academy Princess Grace in Monaco and successfully passed, currently pursuing studies abroad. The foundation has also been recognized for its contribution to nurturing potential artistic talents and was awarded the Cultural Contribution Award at the 2021 Korea Mecenat Awards.

Expanding its scholarship program beyond domestic boundaries, the KT&G Scholarship Foundation operates a global scholarship program, selecting and providing educational opportunities for outstanding talents in various countries worldwide, including Indonesia, Russia, Turkey, and Kazakhstan. In 2022, a startup competition was held for local university students in Indonesia, with a total of 383 individuals selected to receive scholarships. As of last year, the number of global scholarship recipients supported by the KT&G Scholarship Foundation amounted to over 1,200.

An Hong-pil, Director of the KT&G Scholarship Foundation Office, stated, "The Foundation is not only providing simple financial support but also discovering talents that will lead the future and consistently supporting their growth," adding, "I will continue to show interest and support so that scholarship recipients can exert positive influence in society."
