KT&G to Commemorate 50th Anniversary of South Korea-Indonesia Diplomatic Relations with Global CSR Expansion 2023.10.31

KT&G (CEO Baek Bok-in) celebrated the 50th anniversary of South Korea-Indonesia diplomatic relations by organizing various global CSR activities, including support for university student startups, cultural festivals, and improvements in the education environment.

On the 28th of last month, KT&G held the final event of the "Imagination Entrepreneurship School," called IR Pitching Day, at UNTAR University in Jakarta, Indonesia. The "Imagination Entrepreneurship School" is a university student entrepreneurship support program operated by "KT&G Imagination Univ Indonesia," a local university student community of KT&G. Through a university student idea competition, they selected 15 teams out of 91 teams who made it to the finals. At IR Pitching Day, the final 15 teams presented their entrepreneurial ideas, receiving feedback from experts and prize money.

In addition, KT&G hosted the "Imagination Fiesta" on the 27th at the State University of Jakarta, where it introduced K-contents to local university students.

Within and outside the event venue of "Imagination Fiesta," banners and signs supporting the "2030 Busan World Expo" were installed. Furthermore, during the event, promotional videos for the Busan World Expo were shown, encouraging Indonesian university students to support the Expo.

KT&G Welfare Foundation constructed an elementary school in the Bogor region of Indonesia and held a completion ceremony on the 25th (local time). Through this educational environment improvement project conducted since December of last year, the old and inadequate building was transformed into a new educational facility with seismic design. They also provided educational equipment such as PCs, printers, air conditioning, and desks in facilities like computer rooms, libraries, and science rooms.

In 2014, KT&G established the "KT&G Korean Language Institute" in Indonesia, providing approximately 2,800 people with opportunities for Korean language education and cultural experiences. In addition to this, they operate "Imagination Univ," which supports the development of the capacity and cultural experiences of Indonesian youth. In 2021, they established the "KT&G Vocational Training Center" at Malang's UKCW University, providing education in sewing, computer technology, and other skills for marginalized women and youth to achieve economic independence.

A KT&G representative stated, "We are taking the lead in promoting communication between the two countries through cultural exchanges in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Korea-Indonesia diplomatic relations," and added, "We will continue to make efforts to spread Korean culture and enhance exchanges through various platforms."
