242 KT&G to Host the 2nd “2016 Korea Design Challenge” 2016.07.01


KT&G (CEO Bok-in Baek) announced that it will hold the 2nd 2016 Korea Design Challenge following the 1st session in April to produce design ideas and distribute them worldwide


This year will mark the fourth anniversary for the public competition since 2013, which is designed to invigorate Korea’s product design industry. Especially two session are held in 2016 in order to promote the superior quality of Korean designs in overseas markets. April session was co-hosted jointly with a living goods brand Peleg based in Israel. NPS, a gift design brand from England, will cooperate with producing and distributing design ideas.


The public competition Novelty & Fun, Office & Stationery, Travel, and Beauty, will be hosted under the theme of “Everyday Play”. The competition is open to professional designer or design students without limitation of the number of submissions. One can apply for the competition through KT&G’s website( www.sangsangmadang.com ) by July 17.


Promising ideas will be selected based on criteria including design and marketability, and will be produced through workshops with design professionals. Winning designs will be produced and distributed with NPW brand in 70 countries worldwide, and submitted to 2017 Maison & Object in Paris, France and NY NOW, gift fair in New York, as well.


KT&G hosted the first Korea Design Challenge with Kikkerland, a global design distribution company, in 2013. Selected ideas have been distributed to 30 countries and this year’s winning ideas will be distributed to 70 countries for world-wide distribution after production. The unique social responsibility program hosted by KT&G is known to be a contributor for helping Korean designers with design development and promoting the superior quality of Korean designs of new designers in overseas markets
