2023.12.26
KT&G (CEO Baek Bok-in) has selected photographer Lee Son as the Photographer of the Year for the 14th edition of the KT&G Sangsangmadang Korean Photographer's Fellowship (KT&G SKOPF).
KT&G SKOPF is a representative program of KT&G Sangsangmadang that discovers potential photographers and supports their artistic activities. The program selects three Photographers of the Year among the applicants through the evaluation of a professional panel of judges, and provided them with support worth a total of 45 million won, including funding, mentoring, exhibition opportunities, and more.
Celebrating its fourteenth year, KT&G SKOPF selected Lee Son, Min Hye-ryeong, and Lee Seung-jae as Photographers of the Year in June. Through evaluations from the cultural and artistic community as well as public feedback, Lee Son was chosen as the final Photographer of the Year.
Lee Son, who graduated from Hongik University in 2022, was born in 1997, making him the youngest Photographer of the Year in the history of the award. Lee Son is set to engage in active activities with additional support of 27 million won for organizing personal photo exhibitions and publishing art books.
KT&G, based on the multidisciplinary cultural and arts space KT&G Sangsangmadang, has been supporting the development of cultural artists and local communities. Since 2008, it has been discovering and supporting outstanding domestic photographers, including No Sun-taek, through the SKOPF program.
A KT&G representative stated, "KT&G continues to discover and support young photographers who will lead the Korean photography scene through KT&G SKOPF." They further expressed, "We will contribute to the sustainable development of the cultural and artistic community through support programs in various fields, including photography, film, music, and more."
