KT&G (CEO Baek Bok-in) opened the entire space of 'Sangsangmadang Busan', a complex cultural space located in Seomyeon, Busan, on the 23rd to strengthen support for the culture and art ecosystem and expand opportunities for people to enjoy popular culture.
Sangsangmadang Busan is the 5th complex cultural space that KT&G introduced in September last year, and until that time, KT&G had only operated some of the facilities such as galleries, performance halls, cafes, and spaces to support youth entrepreneurship.
Sangsangmadang Busan unveiled all of its facilities from the 8th to the 13th floor, which had not been operating before, through this commemorative event of opening the entire space. The newly introduced space will include movie theatres, restaurant area, and a rooftop, which is expected to expand Sangsangmadang Busan's culture and arts and relaxation space.
To commemorate the opening of the entire Sangsangmadang Busan, KT&G will hold a culture and art event from the 23rd to the 26th with the local community including citizens, small business owners, and artists. Various programs such as cultural performances, exhibitions, and special lectures by celebrities will be held while complying with the government quarantine regulations.
Baek Bok-in, president of KT&G, said, “‘Sangsangmadang Busan’ will play a role as a hub to support artists in various fields and to communicate with young people in Busan” and “We will further develop it into a space that provides a wide range of cultural events and creates a better art ecosystem.”
Meanwhile, KT&G Sangsangmadang has supported creative activities of up-and-coming artists and provided a wide range of cultural experiences to the public. Starting with ‘Sangsangmadang Hongdae’ in 2007, one after another Sangsangmadang has been introduced in Nonsan, Chuncheon, and Daechi, and it has now grown into a cultural mecca with 1.8 million annual visitors with 3,000 cultural and art programs every year.
