The KT&G Scholarship Foundation will conduct a project to support ‘non-contact education’ for children who are alienated during digital learning.
On February 23rd, KT&G has signed a business agreement with the Kids & Future Foundation and has donated 250 million won. This project was planned to narrow the gap in digital learning and to improve the non-contact educational environment for children of low-income households amid the expansion of online classes in public education due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
The recruitment and selection of beneficiaries will be conducted by the Kids & Future Foundation. In March, the foundation will select 20 child welfare organizations to offer digital learning programs, and PC tablets will be provided to 400 children from low-income households. Regarding the learning programs, they will be run for about three months starting from June by selecting professional instructors and universities’ volunteer associations.
An official from the KT&G Scholarship Foundation said, “We prepared a project to support non-contact education, which helps children of low-income households learn in a stable educational environment, even during the COVID-19 era. We will strive to eliminate the blind spots in education and cultivate the next generation of leaders through various scholarship projects.”
In August 2020, the KT&G Scholarship Foundation provided PC tablets and scholarships to 300 middle and high school students who are educationally alienated. They also carried out a project to provide scholarships to college students from jobless households in January 2021.
The KT&G Scholarship Foundation is a public interest corporation established in 2008 by KT&G in order to practice the corporate philosophy of, “A Company that Walks Together with People”. The foundation has continued to provide scholarship programs to support outstanding students so that they do not give up on their studies due to their social or economic status. At present, over 5,431 students have benefited from the projects and about 33.2 billion won was provided for monetary support.
