386 To the world beyond Korea, KT&G Scholarship Foundation Carries Forward Global Scholar 2020.12.08
The KT&G Scholarship Foundation has provided a total of KRW 100 million in scholarships to 46 undergraduate students in Russia and Turkey, as a part of a global scholarship project.

The scholarships provided by the KT&G Scholarship Foundation were granted to a total of 46 excellent talents including 35 Turkish students and 11 Russian students, based on recommendations from local institutions such as major universities. Russia and Turkey are countries where KT&G is present, and the eligibility was decided based on each country’s characteristics.

In the case of Turkey, the growing Hallyu (Korean Wave) was taken into account and the scholarship recipients were selected from recommendations made by the Korean Cultural Center in Turkey. On the other hand, In the case of Russia, descendants of independence patriots and Russian-Koreans were selected as scholarship recipients.

An official at the KT&G Scholarship Foundation said, “Based on the experience in scholarship projects that has been continued for over 10 years in Korea, we plan to actively pursue a global scholarship project as well. As global citizens, we are planning to contribute to the local community as well as the fostering of global talents through the global scholarship project.”

Meanwhile, the KT&G Scholarship Foundation was established in 2008 to provide stable education opportunities to underprivileged students. It has been carrying out a global scholarship project since 2018 to fulfill its responsibility as a global citizen. The foundation is providing scholarships to excellent talents based on recommendations by local institutions such as major universities in the country. It has granted a total of approximately KRW 230 million to 142 undergraduate students for 3 years including this year. In particular, the foundation is contributing to creating continuous social achievement by offering opportunities to work at the local corporate to some of the selected students, in addition to the scholarships.
