KT&G (President Baik Bok-in) published the
'2019 KT&G S-REPORT', which contains details of the achievements of last
year's social contribution activities.
This 'S-REPORT' contains, in detail, the
philosophy of social responsibility pursued by KT&G and the various social
contribution activities that have been put into practice. Unlike most Korean
companies that only disclose integrated ESG (environmental, social, governance)
reports, KT&G has been publishing a separate social contribution report
since 2017 to differentiate and expand its communication channels.
KT&G practices social responsibility based on
the three core values of 'hope', 'coexistence', and 'creativity'. The report
consists of three themes of △ Seeds sown with 'Hope' (Welfare Foundation,
Scholarship Foundation) △ Fruits borne from 'Coexistence' (Youth Startup,
Sangsang Fund, Social Responsibility, Shared Growth) and △ Trees grown with
'Creativity' (Sangsang Madang, Sangsang Univ). In addition, key activities such
as the Youth Startup support project, the cultural contribution platform
Sangsangmadang, and the Global CSR were displayed on a special page to discuss
their achievements in depth.
In particular, in the 'Major History of Social
Contribution' section, you can check the footsteps of various KT&G
coexistence management results, including the establishment of the welfare
foundation, and the '2019 HIGHLIGHTS' section summarized the eight major
achievements of last year's social responsibility activities. KT&G received
a commendation from the Minister of Employment and Labor last year in
recognition of its contributions toward fostering social enterprises and was
subsequently certified as an “excellent organization sponsoring culture and
arts” by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.
In the report, KT&G also introduced various
activities that are in progress to overcome the COVID-19 crisis, a situation
where corporate responsibilities and roles have increased in importance. Based
on the management philosophy of 'a company that is with you', KT&G takes
the lead in solving problems through prompt support during this national
crisis. In February, KT&G launched the 'COVID-19 Response Contingency Plan'
in stages to provide physical support such as monetary and goods donations,
customized support for the vulnerable, and psychological support.
Kim Kyung-dong, the KT&G Director of Social
Contribution, shared, "KT&G has taken the lead in creating social
values as a leading company in sustainability management, and has faithfully
reflected these details in the report. We will continue to fulfill our social
responsibilities as a corporate citizen and do our best to coexist with the
local community.”
