The
KT&G Welfare Foundation (Chairman of the Board Kwak Young-gyun) will
deliver 194 tons of newly harvested rice worth ₩5 hundred million to low-income families from the October
2 to 18. This quantity is enough for 38,800 persons to consume for one month.
Of the newly harvested rice, 10 kg will be delivered
through 483 social welfare centers to each one of the 18,100 households,
including low-income families and those of North Korean defectors, and 100kg
will be delivered to each of the 131 soup kitchens across the country.
The program “Sharing Newly Harvested Rice of Love”
started in 2006 to relieve the economic burden of low-income families and to
support the rural community, which is suffering financial hardships due to a
decrease in rice consumption, and about 3,400 tons of newly harvested rice
worth about ₩7.5 billion will be delivered by the
end of this year.
The chair of the KT&G Welfare Foundation, Kwak Young-gyun,
said, “We hold this event of sharing newly
harvested rice of love every year, hoping that it will give the needy neighbors
a ray of hope,” adding that “from
now on, we will also make further efforts to make a society of sharing through
various sharing activities.”
The KT&G Welfare Foundation
was established by KT&G in 2003 to enhance specialized expertise in social
welfare activities, and is practicing sharing activities tailored to the needs
of the local community through its eight Happy Network Welfare Centers.
