KT&G SangSang Madang
Busan Branch hosted the “Indie On Spotlight 6” to support local musicians at
its Live Hall on Saturday.
Now
in its sixth season, Indie On Spotlight is an initiative to nurture emerging
musicians in Busan, which is run by KT&G SangSang Madang Busan Branch and
Music Lab Busan. This season, Rezest and Band Homebody were selected for their
unique band sounds.
This season newly
introduced a “One-Night, Two-Day Mentoring Session” to encourage deeper musical
exchange between mentor and mentee artists. Rock band Broken Valentine—known
for their 20 years of experience, popularity, and artistry—joined the program as
a mentor artist with the two selected teams as mentees. As mentors, Broken
Valentine helped elevate the mentee artists’ performance by giving practical
guidance on arrangement and performance based on years of production
experience.
The joint performance on
Saturday was themed “Recovering Broken Hearts”, and featured songs reflecting
the unique identities of the finalists and their messages. KT&G SangSang
Madang will continue to support the growth of mentee artists by offering various
benefits, such as making clips of the live performance.
Kim Cheon-beom, head of
the performance section on KT&G’s Cultural Contribution Team, said “This
year, we focused on offering practical growth opportunities for emerging
artists, such as overnight mentoring programs for the first time.” He added,
“We will continue to support local musicians in nurturing their special
talents.”
Celebrating its 20th
anniversary, KT&G SangSang Madang has grown into one of Korea’s leading
multi-cultural spaces that support creative activities and connect the public
with art. The facility attracts around 3.2 million visitors annually. Since its
launch as an online community in 2005, SangSang Madang has expanded into five
offline multi-cultural spaces in Hongdae, Nonsan, Chuncheon, Daechi, and
Busan—hosting over 3,000 artistic and cultural programs every year.
