KT&G (CEO Bang Kyung-man)
donated ₩500 million in emergency aid to Uiseong-gun (Gyeongbuk), Sancheong-gun
and Hadong-gun (Gyeongnam), and Ulju-gun (Ulsan),
areas recently declared special disaster zones due to recent wildfires, as well
as to residents in regions at risk of further damage.
KT&G's charitable donation
will support emergency housing, restoration of damaged buildings, livelihood
expenses, and relief supplies for wildfire victims. The funds will be
distributed through the Korea Disaster Relief Association.
The donation comes from the
SangSang Fund, a voluntary donation program created by KT&G employees.
Established in 2011, the SangSang Fund is KT&G's social contribution
initiative, where employees voluntarily donate a portion of their monthly salary,
and the company matches their contributions through a matching grant program.
KT&G Director for ESG
Management Shim Yeong-ah stated, “We sincerely hope for the swift recovery of
the affected areas and for residents to return to their daily lives as soon as
possible. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and do our best to
provide support in various ways.”
Meanwhile, KT&G's subsidiary
Korea Ginseng Corporation (KGC) has also pledged its support for national
disaster relief efforts by donating ₩100 million worth of JungKwanJang Korean
Red Ginseng products to affected residents.
KT&G has a history of providing aid during past disasters. Last year, the company donated ₩300 million to support victims of the Gangneung wildfires, and in 2022, it contributed ₩500 million to assist those affected by wildfires along the east coast, including Uljin-gun (Gyeongbuk) and Samcheok (Gangwon).
