The KT&G Scholarship Foundation held a business agreement ceremony
on Fri, Feb. 21 for its ‘Arts & Culture Scholarship Program,’ an
initiative for discovering and nurturing outstanding ballet talents.
The ceremony at KT&G SangSang Planet welcomed the Korea Mecenat
Association, Ballet STP Cooperative, and Gangdong Foundation for Arts &
Culture. Each organization is set to operate a ‘Ballet Master Class’ program
that will provide professional coaching and performance opportunities to
aspiring ballet talents under the guidance of active ballet company dancers and
choreographers. The KT&G Scholarship Foundation will fully fund the program
with ₩1.4 billion, while the Korea Mecenat Association and Ballet STP Cooperative
will oversee program operations. The Gangdong Foundation for Arts & Culture
will furnish rehearsal and performance spaces.
The KT&G Scholarship Foundation is accepting applications for the
ballet scholarship program until Wed, Mar. 5. Final scholarship recipients
will be selected in April following a document screening and two audition
rounds. Further details are available on the KT&G Scholarship Foundation’s
website.
Ballet professionals who received support from the KT&G Scholarship
Foundation include Park Youn-jae, the first Korean ballerino to win the Prix de
Lausanne in Switzerland, and Jeon Min-chul, who is set to join the
world-renowned Mariinsky Ballet in Russia as a soloist. The foundation also won
the ‘Cultural Contribution Prize’ at the 2021 Mecenat Awards, recognized for
its devotion to fostering artistic talent.
KT&G Scholarship Foundation Secretary-General Ahn Hong-pil stated,
“We will continue to discover talented individuals who will lead the future of
arts and culture, sparing no effort in giving them unwavering support to help
them realize their dreams on stages in and out of Korea.”
Established in 2008, the KT&G Scholarship Foundation has long been
offering various scholarship programs both domestically and internationally to
support underprivileged students and foster future talents. Since 2016, the
foundation has operated the ‘Arts & Culture Scholarship Program,’ offering
annual scholarships of approximately ₩5 million per student in the fields of
the arts and culture, such as ballet and music. From its establishment to the
end of last year, the foundation’s total scholarship support reached ₩48.3
billion and has assisted more than 12,000 students.
