KT&G Social Welfare Foundation sent around
80 members of its SangSang With Us overseas volunteer group to Indonesia and
Vietnam, where they engaged in volunteer activities until January 17.
The
SangSang With Us program has dispatched a total of 1,776 volunteers over 50
missions to countries such as Cambodia and Myanmar since 2005 to improve
locals’ living conditions.
This
time, the SangSang With Us team was involved in enhancing educational
environments by building libraries and restrooms, as well as painting murals at
Babakan Madang Elementary School in Bogor Regency, Indonesia, and Quới Sơn
Elementary School in Bến Tre Province, Vietnam. In Indonesia, the volunteers
also collaborated with local university students for educational services.
Furthermore,
the foundation organized and ran various cultural exchange programs, including
sports events with local students, along with Korean cultural experiences.
An
official from the KT&G Social Welfare Foundation stated, “For the past 20
years, the foundation has consistently carried out volunteer activities in
countries requiring assistance, such as Cambodia and Laos. We will continue
pursuing various efforts to help the underprivileged in Korea and abroad.”
Founded
in 2003, the KT&G Social Welfare Foundation actively engages in social
contribution efforts in and out of South Korea. In the domestic sector, the
foundation has provided 2,305 compact cars to social welfare organizations over
the past two decades and supported vulnerable groups regarding energy with
heating bills and winter supplies. Abroad, it has established a forestry
education center to combat desertification in Mongolia and conducted volunteer
work to improve the educational conditions for students in international
schools, including Ananda Elementary School in Indonesia.
