KT&G Sangsang Madang Busan will hold a special exhibition, “GIFT Vol. 3: Franz Kafka,” from the 7th until January 12th next year, free of charge, to commemorate the centenary of Franz Kafka’s passing.
This exhibition features around 70 drawings by Franz Kafka, as well as works by contemporary Korean artists Noma, Park Sojin, and Buttercup, who reinterpret Kafka’s inner world and perspectives through their own artistic languages. Visitors can explore five chapters of the exhibition space, experiencing an introduction to Franz Kafka as if reading a single book. In particular, on weekends from 1:00 to 6:00 PM, there will be a five-minute artificial snowfall each hour, creating a dreamlike atmosphere reminiscent of a winter night in Prague.
In addition to the exhibition, there are various interactive programs for visitors. These include a writing area recreating Kafka’s study, a photo zone themed around “Metamorphosis,” and more. There will also be collaborative events with the local Busan bookstore “Kafka’s Night,” including book talks and a blueprint experience using Kafka’s drawings. Further details are available on the official KT&G Sangsang Madang website and social media channels.
A KT&G Sangsang Madang representative stated, “This exhibition is designed so that visitors can enjoy not only Franz Kafka’s drawings but also various stories encompassing his philosophy and imagination,” and added, “We will continue to present diverse programs and make efforts toward the sustainable development of the cultural and artistic community.”
Meanwhile, KT&G Sangsang Madang supports the creative activities of emerging artists and offers extensive cultural experiences to the public. Since its inception at Sangsang Madang Hongdae in 2007, it has expanded to five locations including Nonsan, Chuncheon, Daechi, and Busan, contributing to the expansion of the cultural base and regional cultural development. Sangsang Madang attracts approximately 3 million visitors annually, hosting over 3,000 cultural and artistic programs each year.
