KT&G Achieves Global Zero Waste to Landfill Certification by Implementing Environmental Management Goals 2024.08.19
KT&G (CEO Bang Kyung-man) announced on the 19th that its Daejeon #2 Plant has received the Zero Waste to Landfill certification from UL Solutions, a global leader in safety certification.

The Zero Waste to Landfill certification is a metric that evaluates a company’s efforts in resource recycling. According to UL’s evaluation standards, the recycling rate of waste generated at the plant is assessed and verified, with the certification and its level determined based on the recycling rate.

The Daejeon #2 Plant produces scent capsules used domestically and internationally, and the waste generated from this process is prioritized for recycling. In addition, the plant has continuously worked to minimize landfill and incineration of waste while increasing the recycling rate.

In 2021, KT&G established its environmental management vision and strategic framework, known as KT&G Green Impact, and in 2023 expanded its scope to the entire group, actively pursuing environmental management activities such as greenhouse gas reduction, water conservation, and waste recycling.

Specifically, KT&G aims to achieve 100% Zero Waste to Landfill certification for all its manufacturing plants by 2030. To date, the company’s Cheonan Plant and Daejeon #2 Plant, as well as KGC Ginseng Corporation’s Buyeo and Wonju Plants, have received certification. KT&G plans to gradually expand this certification to other sites in the future.

Oh Chi-beom, Head of KT&G’s Manufacturing Division, stated, “KT&G has been striving to mitigate the impact of climate change and accelerate the transition to a circular economy by establishing a global-standard environmental management system,” adding, “We will continue to faithfully implement the company’s environmental responsibility activities to contribute to a sustainable future society.”
