2024.08.05
KT&G Sangsang Madang Daechi is publicly calling for entries for the 7th Sangsang Stage Challenge, a program supporting original musicals in Korea, until September 20th.
The Sangsang Stage Challenge is a cultural contribution program run by KT&G since 2017 to discover and support prominent original musicals in Korea. The program has introduced numerous works to the public, including long-running shows like "The Fiction," as well as "Robin," "Mary Shelley," "Dear My Laika," and "Kim's."
This year’s call for entries is open to original Korean musicals that can be performed in September-October next year. Applications are accepted for a wide range of works, from premiere productions to revisited and revised shows. However, submissions must be capable of running for at least four weeks with a minimum of 24 performances and must not infringe on any performance copyrights.
Applications can be submitted by downloading the application form from the KT&G Sangsang Madang website (www.Sangsangmadang.com) and submitting it via email along with the required documents. The final selection will be announced at the end of October after a first round of document review and a second round of interviews. The selected work will receive a production support grant of 10 million KRW, use of the KT&G Sangsang Madang Daechi Art Hall, stage production equipment such as sound and lighting, and all ticket sales revenue.
Kim Cheon-beom, head of performances in KT&G’s Cultural Contribution Department, said, “KT&G has been discovering and supporting promising original musical works through the Sangsang Stage Challenge,” and added, “We will continue to contribute to the activation of the domestic performance culture by supporting various cultural and artistic programs.”
Meanwhile, KT&G Sangsang Madang is a multi-cultural art space that supports the creative activities of emerging artists and provides the public with diverse cultural experiences. Since the opening of "Sangsang Madang Hongdae" in 2007, it has expanded to five locations including Nonsan, Chuncheon, Daechi, and Busan, contributing to the expansion of the cultural and artistic base and regional cultural development. Sangsang Madang attracts approximately 3 million visitors annually and operates around 3,000 cultural and artistic programs each year.
