KT&G Sangsang Madang hosts the ‘Sangsang Blue Pavilion’ upcycling program idea contest.
2024.05.20
KT&G (CEO Kyung-man Bang) is conducting an idea contest for the '2024 Sangsang Blue Pavilion' upcycling program, which transforms regional waste into artistic creations. Submissions for this innovative program are open until July 5th.
The 'Sangsang Blue Pavilion' program was first introduced last year by Sangsang Univ, a nationwide university community organized by KT&G. The program was designed to effectively communicate the critical issue of environmental pollution. The contest is open to university and graduate students from across the country, including those who are currently on a leave of absence. Participants must form teams of 2 to 4 members to enter. To submit their entries, teams need to present their upcycling sculpture design ideas through the Sangsang Univ website at www.sangsanguniv.com.
Eighteen teams selected through design ideas and presentation evaluations will receive expert mentoring and the opportunity to produce actual sculptures. These sculptures will be displayed alongside professional artists’ upcycled artworks at KT&G Sangsang Madang Busan in October. Following expert evaluation and peer reviews among the participating teams, the top eight teams will be awarded a total of 15 million won in prize money and certificates. The sculptures will be recycled as materials for new upcycled artworks after the exhibition ends.
Hee-seung Oh, Head of Univ Operations at KT&G, stated, "‘Sangsang Blue Pavilion,’ having started last year, has already seen high participation rates and great interest from university students. We look forward to active participation from students nationwide who are interested in upcycling architectural design."
Additionally, 'Sangsang Univ' has been operating since 2010 as a nationwide university community supported by KT&G to assist college youth, having engaged over one million participants to date. Through various programs like 'Sangsang Friends', 'Sangsang Marketing School', and 'Sangsang Blue Pavilion', it supports local youth culture and contributes to solving social issues.
