KT&G (CEO Baek Bok-in) has been honored with the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award at the ‘Awards for Outstanding Contributions to Climate Change Response and Greenhouse Gas Reduction’ ceremony on the 16th. This award recognizes the company's commitment to achieving carbon neutrality.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy annually rewards individuals and organizations that have significantly contributed to combating climate change and reducing greenhouse gases in the industrial and power generation sectors. This year, KT&G's Yeongju Plant has been selected for the award.
Since 2020, the Yeongju Plant has actively engaged in reducing greenhouse gases through continuous investment in equipment and improvements in manufacturing processes, successfully cutting down 437 tons of oil equivalent (toe) over three years. Moreover, the plant participates in the ESP (Energy Saving Technology Information Exchange) program, contributing to greenhouse gas reduction policies and leading carbon reduction activities through ongoing education and promotional efforts.
Additionally, the Yeongju Plant acquired ISO50001 (Energy Management System) certification in 2021, reflecting its sustained commitment to environmental management. Notably, last year, the plant was selected as an exemplary site under the Voluntary Energy Efficiency Goal System, a program overseen by the Korea Energy Agency.
A KT&G representative stated, “KT&G aims to go beyond mere numerical improvements, linking our value chain to tackle climate change and lead in reducing greenhouse gases. We will continue to generate tangible ESG results and engage in diverse activities connected to sustainability.”
In another significant achievement, KT&G obtained an integrated ‘A+’ grade in the Korea ESG Standards Institute's ESG evaluation last month and has been recognized as an ESG leader, having consistently secured the highest 'AA grade' in the same industry for three consecutive years in the ESG evaluations by MSCI (Morgan Stanley), a global investment information provider, since 2021.
