KT&G Participates in Supporting the Bid for ‘2030 Busan World Expo’
2023.06.09
KT&G (CEO Baek Bok-in) has installed sculptures of the representative character of Busan, 'Boogi', at five Sangsang Madang, Sangsang Planet, and 115 business establishments throughout the country in support of the bid for the '2030 Busan World Expo.'
KT&G has installed Boogi sculptures at Sangsang Madang, which are popular among young generations, located in Chuncheon, Nonsan, Daechi, Busan, and Hongdae and Seongsu-dong, Seoul. We are also screening promotional videos for the bid of Busan World Expo at Sangsang Planet, a youth startup support space located in Seoul.
In addition, we are also running an event where users can receive discounts for using Sangsang Madang and prizes by uploading photos with the Boogi character sculptures on social media.
Boogi is a shortened form of "Busan Galmaegi” (Busan Seagull). The city of Busan is actively utilizing the Boogi character, which personifies the seagull, in its efforts to attract the World Expo. KT&G has installed a large 4.5m-high Boogi sculpture at Sangsang Madang in Busan. We have also placed Boogi sculptures at business establishments nationwide to provide additional support for the bid from areas outside of Busan.
KT&G plans to support the bid for the Busan World Expo by screening promotional videos and installing banners at Korean language institutes operated by overseas branches in Indonesia and Kazakhstan, as well as domestically.
In addition, KT&G is planning to engage in promotional activities for the bid through video screenings and social media support events at the 'Festival Ciot' cultural and arts festival held annually at Busan Sangsang Madang. We will also participate in the 'Shoes Festival,' where university students and small business owners come together for regional economic development.
A representative from KT&G stated, "Through attracting the World Expo, we anticipate various positive effects at the national level, such as activating the domestic economy and enhancing the country's image." He added, "In the future, we will continue to carry out comprehensive support activities for the bid to host the Busan World Expo, utilizing Sangsang Madang, which are popular among the younger generations, business establishments nationwide, and overseas branches.
