Until February 20th, KT&G Sangsangmadang Busan is actively recruiting participants for 'Indie on Spotlight 4', a program that discovers and supports new local musicians.

"Indie on Spotlight" is a Busan-based project that provides mentoring and performance opportunities for aspiring musicians. Since 2021, KT&G Sangsangmadang Busan has collaborated with the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency (Busan Music Creation Center) on three programs.

The "Indie on Spotlight 4" program is open to Busan-based individuals or groups with less than two years of experience and at least three original songs. Through document screening and actual performance video screening, the two groups with the highest scores for popularity, originality, and development potential will be chosen.

This season, the final selected team will receive mentoring from mentor musician Jo Jung-chi, including instruction on how to compose lyrics and prepare for performances. Then, on April 15 at KT&G Sangsang Madang Busan, the group will perform a total of four songs, including two of their own compositions. The day of the performance will also feature mentor/mentee talk shows and mentor musician performances.

In the last 'Indie on Spotlight’ programs, seven teams, including Allot, Seoul Buin, From2020, and Isa Hall, were chosen and mentored by ‘Car, the Garden’, ‘Harim’, and ‘Yozoh’. Utilizing 'Indie on Spotlight' as a stepping stone, they have engaged in music-related activities to date.

An official of KT&G said, "We hope that 'Indie on Spotlight 4' will encourage Busan's young musicians to become more active.” He added, "By utilizing the infrastructure of 'KT&G Sangsangmadang,' we intend to actively contribute to the development of the domestic music industry.”

Following Hongdae, Nonsan, Chuncheon, and Daechi, Sangsang Madang Busan is KT&G's fifth nationwide complex culture and art space. Sangsang Madang Busan is the largest of the Sangsang Madang spaces, and it operates a creator creation center and a youth start-up support space in addition to design contests, performances, and exhibitions.
