KT&G Delivers Contributions to the Ministry of Justice for Social Settlement Support Initiative for Disadvantaged Individuals 2022.08.22
KT&G (CEO Baek Bok-in) presented the Ministry of Justice with a donation of KRW 180 million to support social settlement support projects, such as the treatment and rehabilitation of patients at the National Forensic Hospital and the enhancement of the quality of life for those under legal protection.

The delivery ceremony was held on the 19th at KT&G's Seoul office in the presence of officials such as Lee Sang-hak, Head of KT&G's Sustainability Management Division, and Yoon Woong-jang, Director of Crime Prevention Policy at the Ministry of Justice.

The contribution will be used to operate a psychological stability program for patients and medical staff at the National Forensic Hospital, an inpatient treatment facility operated by the Ministry of Justice. A brand-new 'Snoezelen' space for sensory activities including sight and touch has been created to assist patients with mental and physical stability, and according to an evaluation showing that the horticultural treatment facilities constructed last year were effective at managing the emotions of patients and nursing staff, additional horticultural products will be installed.

The contribution will also be used to fund projects promoted by the Korea Rehabilitation Agency to enhance the living conditions of those under legal protection. This is a project to improve the living conditions of the vulnerable, such as those recently released from prison and those on probation, so they can rejoin society in a healthy manner.

Since 1998, KT&G has continuously provided donations to the Ministry of Justice to improve the housing environment for persons under protection, to enhance the environment for crime prevention, and to create employment opportunities and provide emotional stability for youth in crisis. Due to the spread of COVID-19, emergency assistance was provided due to the shortage of self-diagnostic kits in institutions operated by the Ministry of Justice earlier this year. KT&G has provided KRW 10.87 billion in support to date.

The head of KT&G's Sustainability Management Division, Lee Sang-hak, stated, "Through this contribution, we hope that the socially vulnerable will live in a better environment, integrate into society steadily, and become contributing members." Together with the Ministry of Justice, we will continue to develop individualized social contribution programs for marginalized and disadvantaged individuals in the future.
