KT&G held a ceremony for donation delivery to support young people preparing for independent living in the conference room of the Beautiful Foundation located in Jongno-gu, Seoul, and delivered a donation amount of 250 million won on the 19th.
A young person preparing for independent living
refers to a young person who has been living in a childcare facility or foster
home without a guardian and is turning 18, becoming exempt from the protection of
a facility. According to government statistics released in July of last year,
about 2,500 young people each year are starting their independent living as
their protection comes to an end.
The donation will be used for financial support
and emotional support for young people preparing for independent living through
the Beautiful Foundation, a non-profit public interest foundation. KT&G
plans to provide opportunities for them to grow into healthy members of society
by subsidizing expenses necessary for self-reliance, such as education expenses
and self-development expenses.
KT&G also plans to provide for young people
preparing for independent living educational programs such as cultural arts
experience programs and mentoring to improve social skills to help them develop
mental stability and emotions.
The support project for youth preparing for
independent living was prepared to commemorate the 20th anniversary
of KT&G's privatization. This year, KT&G plans to more actively
practice the management philosophy of “a
company that works together” which carries the meaning of growth and challenges
over the past 20 years. To this end, starting with this support project, more
social contribution projects worth about 1 billion won will be carried out
sequentially to the end of this year to commemorate the 20th anniversary
of privatization.
Shim Young-ah, head of KT&G's Social Contribution Department, said, "To celebrate the 20th anniversary of KT&G's privatization, we have prepared a support project for the growth and development of young people who are preparing for independent living. We hope that this support project will help young people preparing for independent living to grow into healthy members of society.”
