KT&G (CEO Baek Bok-in) is openly inviting works to participate in the '5th Sangsang Stage Challenge', a domestic original Korean musical support program, until the 7th of next month.

‘Sangsang Stage Challenge’, which marks its 5th anniversary this year, is a cultural contribution program that KT&G has been running since 2017 to discover and support Korea’s leading original Korean musicals. So far, a total of four musicals have successfully completed their performances through ‘Sangsang Stage Challenge’. In particular, the musical 'Mary Shelley', which was selected as the final musical last year, drew the most number of audiences among the "Sangsang stage challenge" musicals despite Covid 19.

This invitation is for original Korean musicals that can be performed in September to November this year, and a wide range of works from premiere works that are shown for the first time on stage to re-performed works that are newly adapted from the original can apply. However, it must be a work that does not infringe on the performance copyright and can be performed for 4 weeks or more.

To apply for the competition, you can download the application form from KT&G Sangsangmadang website and submit it by e-mail along with other required documents. The final selection will be announced on March 8 after the document review process in the first stage and the interview process in the second stage, and KRW 10 million of musical production support will be provided along with ‘KT&G Sangsangmadang Daechi Art Hall’ performance hall and stage equipment free of charge.

Ji Hyo-seok, head of KT&G’s Cultural Contribution Department, said, “I hope that through ‘Sangsang Stage Challenge’, excellent original Korean musicals will continue to perform stably in front of many audiences." and added “We will continue to utilize the infrastructure of ‘KT&G Sangsangmadang’ to contribute to revitalization of Korean performing arts,”
