444 KT&G Hosts Marine Environment Protection Exhibition 2021.09.10
KT&G (CEO Baek Bok-in) is holding the exhibition 'Painting the Future of the Sea' under the theme of protecting the marine ecosystem at KT&G Sangsang Madang Busan until the 18th.

This exhibition was organized by ‘Our Sea of East Asia Network (OSEAN)’ and sponsored by KT&G and ‘Marine Environment Corporation’ with the purpose of raising awareness about the destruction of marine ecosystems.

In the gallery on the 4th and 5th floors of Sangsang Madang Busan, you can see works that tell the story of the ecological pollution caused by marine debris and the creatures that have been harmed by this pollution. A total of 30 works, including paintings, sculptures, videos, and installation art, submitted by a total of 10 artists, can be seen on display.

There will also be marine environment experience education and art experiences in which visitors can participate under the guidance of experts. There are also 59 videos and photos taken by scuba divers during underwater cleanup activities that show the ecosystem and debris in the sea.

This exhibition is part of the Marine Ecosystem Protection Project promoted by KT&G. In May, KT&G signed a business agreement for the protection of marine ecosystems with the Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation and the ‘A commemorative photo of the exhibition featuring Shim Yeong-ah, head of KT&G's Social Contribution Office (fourth from left); Song Bok-yeong, director of the Marine Waste Management Center at the Korea Marine Environment Corporation (fifth from left); and Hong Seon-wook, CEO of the 'Our Sea of East Asia Network (OSEAN)' (sixth from left)’, a civic group. According to the agreement, each organization investigated the current status of damage to the ecosystem due to the dumping of debris, and carried out beach garbage collection and underwater purification activities in the Busan and Gyeongnam areas a total of 12 times. In particular, the organizations are enhancing the effectiveness of purification activities by selecting items to be collected, such as PET bottles, waste nets, and cigarette butts, for each round.

Shim Yeong-ah, head of KT&G's Social Contribution Department, said, "This exhibition was prepared to promote the importance of marine protection and ecosystem restoration." She added, "In the future, we will continue to conduct various marine purification activities and lead the way in the area of eco-friendly management.”
