2021.07.26
KT&G (CEO Baek Bok-in) secured the certificate for occupational safety and health management systems (ISO 45001) from International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in recognition of the efforts to create safe work environments in major workplaces.
This is an accomplishment attained as a result of the ESG management pursued by KT&G. ISO 45001 is an international standard of safe and healthy management, adopted by ISO and the International Labor Organization. The subjects of the certification this time are the five plants owned by KT&G (plants in Sintanjin, Gwangju, Yeongju, Gimcheon, Cheonan). The company established preventive measures against various risk elements, which may arise at workplaces, and was recognized for its excellence in safety training, inspection activities, etc.
For this purpose, KT&G actively accommodates inputs from workers, in major policies via such measures as holding an industrial and management committee every quarter between the labor and the management and deliberating on important matters regarding safety and health. Furthermore, the company supports a healthy working life of the members by operating a system since 2004, whereby workers undergo a check-up of their musculoskeletal systems for each work process, as the company continuously improves on the work environment.
According to a KT&G official, “receiving the ISO 45001 certificate this time proves that the company provides a workplace with a clear goal and a system which prioritize safety,” and “the company will practice the systematic safety management in accordance with the global standards, to guarantee and respect the right to work safely, and thus strengthen the ESG-drive management.”
Meanwhile, KT&G speeds up obtaining safety certifications in Korea and overseas, to maintain the top-level ESG system internationally. The company’s excellent quality and environment management system has been acknowledged with the acquisition of ISO 14001 (environmental management), ISO 9001 (quality management systems) and other qualifications, and KT&G plans to expand its reliability in the area of environmental, social protection and governance by further obtaining ISO 50001 (energy management) and other certifications.
