417 KT&G Announces Winner of the ‘4th Imagination Stage Challenge' for the Creative Drama 2021.03.23
KT&G (CEO Baek Bok-in) announced the winner of the 4th Imagination Stage Challenge, which is a creative drama support project. The winning musical, "Mary Shelley", will be staged at the KT&G Sangsang Madang Daechi Art Hall in September.

The "Imagination Stage Challenge" is KT&G's cultural contribution project to discover potential creative plays and help performances continue. Since 2017, KT&G has supported creative plays through the "Imagination Stage Challenge", and has so far successfully supported musicals such as "The Fiction", "Robin", and the play "Round Boxer".

This year, the contest was held for domestic creative musicals, and the musical "Mary Shelley" was selected as the winner after document reviews and interviews. KT&G will provide 10 million won for production costs along with the "KT&G Sangsang Madang Daechi Art Hall" and all of its equipment free-of-charge so that the musical can debut for audiences in September.

The musical "Mary Shelley" is a creative play based on the British author of the same name, who wrote the novel "Frankenstein" in 1818. "Frankenstein" is an autobiographical novel in which the author expressed herself as a monster. The musical "Mary Shelley" deals with the nature of human innocence and malice by following the events that led to the creation of "Frankenstein".

Ji Hyo-seok, head of KT&G's Cultural Contribution Department, said, "The Imagination Stage Challenge was designed to help works that are experiencing difficulties continuing due to financial hardships and the like.” By using our resources, such as the KT&G Art Hall, we will continue to support projects that are worthy of continuation."
