On May 5, KT&G (President Bokin Baek) provided the Indonesian government with KRW 100 million worth of diagnostic kits for diagnosing COVID-19.

KT&G, which operates an overseas business site in Indonesia, decided to provide this support to fulfill its global social responsibility and help the country overcome the crisis. Indonesia is a partner country that has been engaged in various diplomatic exchanges with South Korea since diplomatic relations were established between the countries in 1973.

Indonesia is in short supply of basic medical equipment such as diagnostic kits and protective clothing due to the rapid spread of COVID-19. Accordingly, KT&G secured a large number of diagnostic kits in Korea last month and sent them to Indonesia to help the local situation. On May 5, a local branch of KT&G delivered the kits directly to the Indonesian National Emergency Management Agency (Badan Nasional Penanggulangan Bencana - BNPB).

The kits provided by KT&G are internationally recognized Korean-made COVID-19 diagnostic kits and the quantity sent is enough to test 6,300 people for COVID-19. The kits will be supplied immediately to the forefront of medical sites in Indonesia, and will be used to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The Head of Social Contribution at KT&G, Gyeongdong Kim, said, “We decided to provide emergency aid to help our company's overseas branch to overcome the hardship. I hope that it will be of great help to the Indonesian people who have had a long-standing friendship with South Korea.”

KT&G provided KRW 100 million in emergency aid after an earthquake struck Indonesia in 2018. In addition, the company continuously conducts social contribution activities to improve local education and living conditions. The company has dispatched overseas volunteers every year since 2012, and in 2014, the company established the Korean Language Institute in Jakarta to promote cultural exchange between Korea and Indonesia. In addition, in 2017, ‘Imagination University’ was established in Indonesia to support the development of students' competencies, and since August last year, the company has been sponsoring a coffee expert training project to help young people improve their job skills.

Meanwhile, KT&G has been providing active support in Korea to help the country overcome COVID-19. The company donated KRW 500 million in emergency aid to the National Association for Disaster Relief, and our subsidiary KGC Ginseng Corporation delivered KRW 1.6 billion worth of Jeonggwanjang branded health products to the medical field. In addition, for small business owners and vulnerable groups, the company participated in the “Flower Farming Campaign” and the “Good Landlords Movement,” and provided a packed lunched worth KRW 300 million to national welfare institutions through the 'Sharing Imagination' program.
