364 KT&G employees help independence of end-of-protection youths from welfare facilities 2020.01.21

On 20th Jan., KT&G (President Baek Bok-in ) delivered a donation to the “Beautiful Foundation” to help the youth who end up the protection by children's welfare facilities and family entrustment.

End-of-protection youth are those who are protected in welfare facilities and are terminated in accordance with the Child Welfare Act when they turn 18. About 2,500 end-of-protection youth occur each year, but many of them are having trouble getting into a stable society.

As a result, KT&G executives and employees provided financial resources through a voluntary donation, the Sangsang Fund. The amount of support reaches 150 million won.

The donations are used to increase self-reliance capabilities such as maintenance of study and self-improvement for the end-of-protection youth. Specifically, it will be used for scholarships, subsidies for academic life, and support for short-term overseas language study. It will also be used in various programs to help the end-of-protection youth, such as clubs and self-governing activities, and mentor and mentee activities, so that they can become stable and self-reliant in society.

An official from KT&G said, "We have gathered the hearts of our employees to help the end-of-protection youth enter the society stably." "In the future, we will continue our interest in supporting the underprivileged."

The KT&G's original social contribution fund, “Sangsang Fund”, launched in 2011, is created by employees voluntarily donating a portion of their salary and the company adding the same amount. It is participating in support for the underprivileged at home and abroad as well as solving urgent social problems. In addition, for the purpose of voluntary and transparent fund management, it operates the “Sangsang Fund Management Committee” composed of only general employees.
