357 KT&G Scholarship Foundation Sponsors Library Reconstruction in Goseong, Gangwon 2020.01.15

The KT&G Scholarship Foundation supported the reconstruction of a library in Goseong-gun, Gangwon-do, which was severely damaged by a large forest fire last year and held an opening ceremony with local residents on 14th Jan.

The local library 'Anne of Green Gables Small Book Village', Goseong, Gangwon-do, was damaged by the loss of more than 3,000 books and the entire facility due to a large forest fire in April last year. This library has been operated by Park Young-sook (63, female), a local resident, at his own expense. It has been used as a reading space for children in the village and as a shelter for residents.

Upon hearing the news, the KT&G Scholarship Foundation decided to sponsor the cost of rebuilding the library and was reborn as a space with a reading room and community room earlier this month. Unlike the former renovated house, a special building was built, and new fixtures such as books and desks were prepared. In the future, not only reading but also cultural and arts education for children is planned.

An official from the KT&G Scholarship Foundation said, “We have participated in the library rebuilding project so that children who have lost their place of learning due to a large fire can find courage and fulfill their dreams.” "We will try to be helpful to those who go forward without losing hope in difficult circumstances."

Meanwhile,KT&G Scholarship Foundation is a public corporation established by KT & G in 2008 to carry out the management philosophy of “Company Together”, and is offering differentiated scholarship programs to provide stable educational opportunities for the underprivileged. As of last year, the cumulative support amounted to 29.4 billion won and about 4600 people received benefits.
