338 'KT&G Sangsangmadang Daechi' redesigned as a space for arts and culture 2019.09.30

KT&G (CEO Baek Bok In) opened a multipurpose cultural space, Daechi Gallery, and a resting-type reading space, Sangsang Maru, at the Sangsang Madang Daechi, located in the office building in Seoul, Gangnam-gu.


'Sangsang Madang Daechi' was launched in 2006 as a special performance hall 'Sangsang Art Hall' and was integrated as a member of 'Sangsang Madang' in 2017. Since then, it has been operated as a Daechi Art Hall, where you can see performances of various genres, and Art Cube, where you can appreciate works of art KT&G has set up a cultural space to provide visitors with a variety of cultural and artistic experiences.


First, on September 30, Art Cube, which was located next to Daechi Art Hall on the third floor, was moved to the first floor and reborn as the Daechi Gallery. The gallery is set up in an open space on the first floor so that visitors can enjoy art at any time. The exhibition space will be strengthened, various works will be exhibited, and culture and art programs such as talk shows and lectures will be operated and used as multipurpose cultural spaces.


On October 1, the resting-type reading space “Sangsang Maru” is opened next to the Daechi Art Hall on the 3rd floor, providing visitors with a richer cultural experience and recharging through reading. According to the schedule of performances, books will be flexibly operated by visitors, and independent publications by non-main artists will be provided.


In the new “Sangsang Madang Daechi,” various opening events will be held. To commemorate the opening of the Daechi Gallery, KT & G will host the “KT&G Daechi Gallery Opening Exhibition – Silent Blue” with Jung Yu Mi from September 30 to January 3 next year. Next, on October 1, with the opening of the Sangsang Maru, a special visiting lecture on humanities for workers will be held and ‘Phono Sapiens’ author Choi Jae-bung will hold a book concert. Book lottery events and author signings are also planned.


An official from KT&G said, “Daechi Gallery and Sangsang Maru are open to everyone. We will continue to operate various exhibitions and programs to provide visitors with a variety of cultural and artistic experiences.”
