KT&G(CEO Baek Bok-in) and Dokdo Foundation (Chairman Lee Jae-up) held a “I ♡ Dokdo, I ♡ Korea” event in Dokdo on August 20 with foreign students.
About 70 international students from Daegu and Gyeongbuk area, including Gyungbuk National University and Yeongnam University, participated in the event for two nights and three days from August 19. On the first day, they listened to a special lecture by Professor Lee Jung-tae, a professor of political diplomacy at Gyungbuk National University and naturally accumulated knowledge of Dokdo through the quiz time of the ‘Challenge Dokdo Imagination Bell’.
On the 20th, they visited Dokdo, the easternmost part of South Korea, and toured Dokdo Museum on Ulleungdo. In addition, they had a chance to present Dokdo's feelings through the “I ♡ Dokdo” speech contest held by KT & G Sangsang Univ., a college students' social contribution platform.
On the last day, the Ulleungdo and Dokdo Marine Research Base and An Yongbok Memorial Hall will be explored.
Shin Soon-sik, Secretary General of the Dokdo Foundation, said, "We planned this event to spread Dokdo to citizens all over the world." Lee Dong-jae, Director of Daegu Operations of KT & G Sangsang Univ. said "KT & G will continue to carry out various activities to help college students develop their challenges and passions based on their imagination."
Meanwhile, following the first visit to Dokdo, the second event will be held for foreign students in Seoul from August 28th.
* Dokdo Foundation: Gyeongsangbuk-do (specifically Dokdo Policy Division, Gyeongsangbuk-do) sponsored organization established in 2009 to contribute to strengthening Dokdo territory sovereignty through Dokdo protection project and domestic and international public relations activities on private level.
