592 KT&G Student Volunteers for “Correspondent of Cambodia Hope” Program 2016.07.18

▶ KT&G sets out on volunteer activities abroad by dispatching college student volunteers until July 25. The volunteers will build libraries, conduct maintenance for school facilities, help local students with studying, and deliver personal hygiene class with other NGOs. Volunteers are repairing school walls.


KT&G(CEO Bok-in Baek) sets out on volunteer activities abroad by dispatching local volunteers comprised of college students for ‘Correspondent of Cambodia Hope’ until July 25.


The volunteer group, a total of 40 college students, is made of 20 volunteers from KT&G Welfare Foundation, 10 students from Korea National Police Academy and 10 “KT&G Correspondents of Hope in Cambodia” selected through public competition in April.


Once dispatched to Siem Reap Province in Cambodia, these volunteers will build libraries, conduct maintenance for school facilities, help local students with studying, and deliver personal hygiene class with other NGOs. In addition, ten KT&G correspondents will donate over 500 books prepared by donation campaign in Korea to the new library and will provide colorful and fun cultural experiences to local students as a way of talent donation.


KT&G has sent a total sum of 940 volunteers who made 34 trips to Cambodia since 2005. The company has also worked to expand educational facilities including library and schools and on-the-water preschool facilities.


An insider from KT&G said, “Cambodia had suffered from economic challenge after long-lasted civil war. KT&G has dispatched volunteer group for living environment improvement and education support for the future of Cambodia over ten years.”


KT&G has actively acted for the benefit of international society. The company has provided medical support in Cambodia, Uzbekistan, and Mongolia as well. In Indonesia, it has renovated over 40 houses in economically challenged area via ‘Sangsang Village’ contribution. KT&G also established forestry and agriculture education center in Mongolia to train professionals for reforestation by preventing desertification
