KT&G(CEO: Mr. Min Young-jin) will hold the biggest indi music festival in Korea, the “KT&G Sangsangmadang Label Market” in the KT&G Sangsangmadang gallery in Seogyo-dong, Seoul til February 14, next year.
Starting in 2007, the festival in its 8th this year has been prepared to gather and introduce discs in various music genres and to invigorate stagnant music market. In the festival, total 52 labels and 36 individual musician teams will participate and visitors will be able to listen 600 discs freely in the spot and to buy favorite ones.
During the festival, on Saturdays, January 17, January 24, February 7, and February 14, 16 musician teams including band Sugar Doughnut which returns 3 years after parted, Yu Geun-ho, who won in the Yu Jae-ha Music Competition will have small live performances in return. Then, photographer Jeong Ji-hyun, contemporary artist, Yun Hyang-ro, and creative group Salmon will exhibit works re-interpreted music as photo, image, and documentary with the theme of ‘visualization of sound’, adding colorfulness to the festival.
A person concerned in KT&G Sangsangmadang said that “Indi music has attracted music scene’s attention with its new experiments and innovative ideas but there have been few chances for ordinary people to meet it. We hope the festival will be an opportunity for musicians to communicate broadly with the public.”
