KT&G(CEO: Mr. Min Young-jin) will exhibit the finalist selections from the ‘Korea Design Challenge 2014’ in KT&G Sangsangmadang in Seogyo-dong, Seoul until the forthcoming December 4th.
In this exhibition, it is available to see 10 designs’ stories about the entire process from design samples to workshop to the final work. The selected works will be chosen finally through online vote until December 1st and UMBRA screening. On December 5th, the ultimate grand prix will be revealed. Then, the works will be manufactured as products and will be seen in various trade shows including ‘New York Gift Show’ in February 2016 to meet customers all around the world.
The ‘Korea Design Challenge’ is a program to invigorate Korean product design industry and to spread Korean designs to international market. This year, the event is held by collaborating with UMBRA, the world-famous total interior brand. It recruited designs to be used on the wall with theme of ‘Wake up the wall’ last August.
As a result, total 192 works were submitted. Considering potential development focusing on feasibility. Productivity, and marketability, 13 works were primarily chosen. Then, for two months, UMBRA’s general director and manager selected total 10 products to be ‘Finalists’ Exhibition’ through workshop.
KT&G has manufactured, distributed, and sold designer products with Korean designers’ own unique senses and ideas since 2007. Especially, in KT&G Sangsangmadang, through exhibiting and selling designs, the company has offered designers a chance of communication and people a chance to review flow of design industry. It also continues to make an effort to increase a chance for Korean designer product to meet the public.
