587 KT&G donates for Sewol Disaster with ‘Sangsang Fund’ made by donations from the Manag 2014.06.17

 


KT&G (CEO: Mr. Min Young-jin) donated 1.5 billion won to support families of victims of the Sewol disaster and to relieve national suffering by assigning it to Good Neighbors.


The fund was made by the ‘Sangsang Fund’ 750 million won and matching fund of the identical amount by the company, and will be used to support families of victims and missing persons, to build national safety infra, and to enhance social safety system.


KT&G delivered emergency commodities such as blankets, towels, cup ramens to victims’ families in Paengmok port in Jindo, in the end of April, just after the disaster. Since then, with center of the intranet boards, condolence articles and commonsense of the managing staffs that they need more helps have been widely formed. Therefore, it was decided that the donation using the ‘Sangsang Fund’ would be assigned. 


The ‘Sangsang Fund’, started since March 2011, is KT&G’s original donation fund. The ‘Sangsang’ Fund consists of the donation from the managing staffs’ some portion of salaries and the identical amount matched by the company. A managing staff’s one-hour volunteer activities can be converted to 10,000 won and the company donates additionally to the amount, as well. Annually, the amount of the Sangsang Fund is 3.5 billion won and all the staffs of KT&G participate in the project.


A person concerned in KT&G said “We want to give our deepest condolences to the families of the victims of the disaster. It’s small amount but we hope it will be helpful to cure national suffering and to make they overcome their tragic pains and sadness.”
