581 K&G Welfare Foundation Participates in Ecological Recovery Activities in Mount Bukhan 2014.04.07

KT&G welfare foundation(Chairman: Mr. Kwak Young-kyun), conducted ‘2014 Mount Bukhan National Park Ecological Recovery Volunteer Activities’ with 200 participants including the college volunteer group, the ‘KT&G Sangsang Volunteer’ on April 5th, the Arbor day.

The participants of the event removed alien plants around Bukhan-dong village in the national park where the environment has been damaged, and planted 2,016 native trees for Mount Bukhan, such as Sorbus alnifolia and maple tree.

In the past, there was about 300 residents around the Bukhan-dong village. Since 1983, as the mountain was designated as national park, the people moved out and unlicensed buildings were demolished, resulting in damages of the environment and leaving the land empty.

KT&G welfare foundation, helped to plant total 38,000 trees between 2006 and 2012, to recover Naksansa forest destroyed by fire. Since Naksanda forest returned, the foundation started to conduct Mount Bukhan ecological recovery activities with the purpose of ‘conservation of Natural Park in urban area’ in 2013.

A person concerned in KT&G welfare foundation said, “KT&G recognizes eco-friendly management required from society as an important social responsibility and we will continue to plant trees, in collaboration with Mount Bukhan National Park office, to avoid destruction of ecological environment and to protect environment.”
