KT&G (CEO: Mr. Min Younh-jin) opened the first Korean language school in Indonesia established first by a Korean company.
The Indonesian capital, Jakarta, the location of ‘Jakarta KT&G Korean Language School’ is the center of the Korean wave culture diffusion and where many Korean companies have their offices. Therefore, demands for learning Korean are increasing but the city is difficult to educate Korean language and to spread Korean culture due to lack of educational facilities.
KT&G, with collaboration with linguistic and cultural volunteer group, ‘BBB Korea’ which runs Korean language schools in Laos and Vietnam, is planning to educate Korean language and to spread Korean culture in Indonesia via systematic education and diverse activities.
The Fifth cigarette maker in the world, KT&G is a global company to export about 40 billion cigarettes to 50 countries in the world every year, and maintains overseas corporations and branches in 6 countries including USA and China, and there are four factories in 4 countries including Russia.
A person in KT&G said “KT&G has returned more than 50 billion won, 2% of annual sales in order to realize a company’s social responsibility. We will seek multiple ways to spread Korean culture and to help foreign poor people, with concerns for both the domestic and overseas situation in future.”
KT&G has sent donations whenever there were large-scale disasters including the earthquake in Japan in 2011, Sichuan earthquake in China, and typhoon in the Philippines last year, continued to conduct overseas volunteera activities such as dispatching a volunteer group regularly to Cambodia, one of the poorest countries in the world, and medical services in Indonesia.
