On April 25, the KT&G Scholarship Foundation selected scholarship recipients in the ballet category and presented scholarship certificates as part of its Culture and Arts Scholarship Program, which aims to discover and nurture young talent. This program is a talent development initiative operated by the KT&G Scholarship Foundation to cultivate globally competitive talent by identifying and systematically supporting students with exceptional abilities in culture and the arts. Since its launch in 2016, the program has provided approximately KRW 2.55 billion in scholarships and educational opportunities to a total of 104 students. The five newly selected scholarship recipients were chosen through recommendations and evaluations conducted by schools and the World Ballet Teachers’ Association (WBTA), while 35 existing scholarship recipients who passed eligibility renewal evaluations will also continue to receive support. Each scholarship recipient will receive a KRW 5 million scholarship along with the opportunity to participate in master classes led by renowned ballet instructors. Scholarship recipients selected as “Global Artists” among winners of international competitions will also receive an additional KRW 5 million scholarship per person. Previous recipients selected as Global Artists include Park Youn-jae, the first Korean male ballet dancer to win the Prix de Lausanne in Switzerland, and Jeon Min-chul, who became a First Soloist shortly after joining the Mariinsky Ballet. A representative of the KT&G Scholarship Foundation stated, “Through the Culture and Arts Scholarship Program, we have discovered promising young ballet talents and supported their growth into world-class artists. We will continue making diverse efforts to help talented and passionate individuals pursue their dreams.” Established in 2008 as a public interest corporation to fulfill KT&G’s philosophy of being a righteous company, the foundation has carried out a wide range of domestic and international scholarship programs to support educationally isolated communities and foster future leaders. Additionally, the foundation selects and supports students in the cultural and artistic fields each year in partnership with the Korea Mecenat Association, contributing to the discovery of talented young artists.
