KT&G Social Welfare Foundation has dispatched 80 members of its SangSang With Us university student overseas volunteer group to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, where they will engage in volunteer activities until July 26. SangSang With Us is an overseas volunteer program for university students that has been operated by the KT&G Welfare Foundation since 2005. Over the past two decades, the program has dispatched approximately 2,000 student volunteers through 60 missions to help improve living conditions in countries including Cambodia, Myanmar, Indonesia, and Vietnam. This year’s volunteer group has been divided between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. In Kazakhstan, volunteers will carry out activities at Kokozek Public School in Almaty, while in Uzbekistan they will serve at Nurafshan School No. 1 in Tashkent. The volunteers will conduct educational programs for local elementary school students, while also organizing cultural exchange activities, such as Korean traditional culture experiences and K-pop performances. They will also help improve educational facilities by painting school buildings, refurbishing gymnasium floors, and creating murals. A KT&G Welfare Foundation official stated, “For more than 20 years, we have continuously dispatched university student volunteer groups to overseas communities where educational environments need improvement. As a global corporate citizen, we will continue carrying out meaningful social contribution activities that provide practical support to communities in need.” Established in 2003, the KT&G Welfare Foundation carries out a wide range of social contribution initiatives in Korea, including providing vehicles to social welfare organizations and supporting energy-vulnerable households with heating expenses and winter supplies. Abroad, it has established an agroforestry education center to combat desertification in Mongolia and conducted volunteer activities to improve educational environments for local students in countries including Indonesia, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Cambodia.
