KT&G Social Welfare Foundation sent around 60 members of its SangSang With Us overseas volunteer group to Bogor and Pasuruan in Indonesia, where they will engage in volunteer activities until January 27. The SangSang With Us program, operating since 2005, has dispatched a total of around 2,000 volunteers over 60 missions to countries such as Indonesia and Mongolia to improve local communities’ living conditions through activities such as educational infrastructure development. During this mission, the volunteer group will engage in activities to enhance the educational environment at Bina Bangsa Sejahtera Plus Elementary School in Bogor and at Elkana School in Pasuruan. Planned efforts include constructing libraries and restrooms, as well as mural painting volunteer work. The group will also provide educational volunteer services such as cultural classes led by Korean volunteers. Furthermore, program participants plan to directly organize and conduct a range of cultural exchange programs, including sports festivals and group performances, together with local students. An official from the KT&G Social Welfare Foundation stated, “For more than 20 years, we have continued volunteer activities in overseas regions in need of improved educational environments, including Vietnam and Myanmar. As a global corporate citizen, we will continue to carry out diverse initiatives to support underprivileged communities both in Korea and abroad.” Founded in 2003, the KT&G Social Welfare Foundation actively engages in social contribution efforts in and out of South Korea. Over the past 20 years, the foundation has donated a total of 2,455 vehicles to social welfare institutions across Korea, while also covering heating expenses and providing winter supplies to energy-vulnerable households. As for efforts overseas, the foundation has built a total of 10 schools in three countries as of last year, with the first school being built in Myanmar in 2018 and has continued its volunteer efforts to improve educational environments for local students.
