KT&G SangSang Madang, operated by KT&G (CEO Bang Kyung-man), will hold an exhibition featuring the artist selected for the 5th KT&G Daechi Artist Fellowship (DAF), an exhibition support program run by KT&G SangSang Madang Daechi Gallery. Now in its fifth year, the KT&G DAF supports visual artists working in Korea, with the aim of developing diverse forms of contemporary art and revitalizing the exhibition culture. For this year’s exhibition, a three-week open call was held starting in April for emerging artists or teams that had participated in at least one group exhibition. One artist was ultimately selected from approximately 260 applications. A panel of experts evaluated the submissions mainly on the completeness and public appeal of the works, as well as their alignment with the exhibition theme. The selected artist, Kim Ji-young, received high marks for her engagement with contemporary issues, including the environment, ecology, and communal healing, as well as for her sculptural language and the level of completion and depth of her work. Her delicate use of fiber, embroidery, and other materials was also recognized as a particular strength. Kim’s work will be presented in an exhibition titled On the Way: Gravity Practice . The exhibition will run for two months through September 2 at KT&G SangSang Madang Daechi Gallery, and admission is free. Additional information is available on the KT&G SangSang Madang website. We will continue working to provide promising Korean artists with a stable foundation for their creative activities through exhibition space, promotional support, and other forms of assistance.” KT&G SangSang Madang serves as a multifaceted cultural and artistic space, supporting the creative activities of emerging artists while offering diverse cultural experiences to the public. Since starting with the online SangSang Madang in 2005, the platform has expanded to five locations, including Hongdae, Nonsan, Chuncheon, Daechi, and Busan, contributing to the development of local arts and culture as well as the broadening of artistic and cultural engagement. KT&G SangSang Madang hosts over 3,000 cultural and artistic programs every year.
