On the 17th, KT&G (CEO Bang Kyung-man) was listed in the highest tier, the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World). Additionally, the company was included in the Dow Jones Asia Pacific and Korea Indices, recognizing its world-class ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) management activities.
The Dow Jones Sustainability Index is an annual sustainability assessment released by S&P Global, the world’s largest financial information provider. Among 2,500 major global listed companies, only the top 10% with outstanding ESG performance are included in the World Index. In South Korea, only around 20 companies are included in the World Index.
KT&G earned the highest scores among industry peers across all economic, governance, environmental, and social categories, affirming the company’s efforts to enhance sustainability. The overall score was 86 points, placing KT&G in the top 1% of South Korean companies.
In particular, in the economic and governance category, KT&G achieved top marks for board independence, board diversity policies, and corporate ethics, demonstrating advancements in governance aligned with global standards. The company also received high evaluations in areas such as double materiality assessments, supply chain management, and biodiversity.
Furthermore, in August this year, KT&G received an AA rating—one of the highest levels within its industry—for the fourth consecutive year in the ESG evaluation conducted by the global investment information provider MSCI. This placed the company in the ESG Leader group.
Shim Young-ah, Head of ESG Management at KT&G, stated, “Aligned with our future vision of becoming a global top-tier company, we are implementing ESG management practices that meet international standards.” She added, “We will continue to build competitiveness across environmental, governance, and social areas to solidify our position as an ESG-leading company.”
