- From 39 submitted works, including musicals and plays, final 4 selected for free venue and equipment support
On the 29th, KT&G Sangsang Madang announced the final selections for the 5th "Performance Challenge," a space support program aimed at invigorating the performing arts culture.
The "Performance Challenge" received a total of 39 creative entries in the form of musicals and plays, from which 4 final works ("Time Travel Love Song," "Homo Sapiens," "Lumière," and "21 Days") were chosen through expert review. The selected works will be provided with free access to KT&G Sangsang Madang Daechi Art Hall, including sound and lighting equipment, to perform from June 17th to July 14th.
The "Performance Challenge" is a cultural and artistic program operated by KT&G Sangsang Madang since 2021, aimed at contributing to the revitalization of domestic performance culture. Annually, the program discovers creative works through a competition and supports them with the necessary space and equipment for performances.
Last year's 4 "Performance Challenge" selected works successfully performed from June to September, among which "If I Were You" has been regularly scheduled at a theater in Daehangno.
Kim Cheon-beom, head of the Performance Department at KT&G's Culture Contribution Division, stated, "KT&G Sangsang Madang has discovered and supported unique and creative performance works through the ‘Performance Challenge.‘ We will continue to use the infrastructure of ‘Sangsang Madang‘ to assist producers in their stable activities and contribute to the vitality of the domestic performing arts culture."
Meanwhile, KT&G Sangsang Madang is a multi-cultural art space that supports the creative activities of emerging artists and provides the public with a wide range of cultural experiences. Since launching "Sangsang Madang Hongdae" in 2007, it operates in five locations, including Nonsan, Chuncheon, Daechi, and Busan, contributing to the expansion of cultural arts and regional cultural development. Sangsang Madang welcomes approximately 3 million visitors annually, with over 3,000 cultural and artistic programs operated each year.
