2021.10.06
KT&G (President Baek Bok-in) will create a ‘carbon-neutral win-win forest’ in Daegwallyeong, Gangwon-do in response to the current climate crisis and to contribute to carbon neutrality. To commemorate this, the company held a signboard hanging ceremony for ‘KT&G Forest No. 1' on the 6th.
‘KT&G Forest No. 1’ is located near Seonjaryeong on the Daegwallyeong Forest Trail, designated as the No. 1 National Forest Trail this year, and will be built on a 1.5-ha scale starting this month. KT&G employees will participate in preparing the seedlings necessary for planting the forest. After participating in 'Plogging', where employees collect garbage while jogging, recruitment for this program started in September, and 1,000 trees were saved with 1 tree saved per person. ‘Plogging’ is the second stage of KT&G’s eco-friendly campaign ‘Feel Green’, which is being conducted all over the country.
KT&G recognizes eco-friendly management as a corporate social responsibility and actively participates in solving environmental problems. KT&G's employee volunteer group has already performed cleanup services a total of 2,125 times over a 15-year period since 2007. This means that, nationwide, our employees have volunteered their time 2 to 3 times per week. Employees from the KT&G head office, sales organizations, and manufacturing/raw material headquarters are working hard to save the natural environment by improving the environment in streets throughout the country and picking up garbage on the beach.
Since 2011, KT&G has also been carrying out a tobacco smoking facility installation project, focusing on transportation facilities such as airports and train stations, as well as multi-use facilities in order to improve the environment of the streets. The company has installed a total of 400 smoking facilities nationwide. In addition, in places where it is difficult to install smoking facilities and where there is frequent dumping of cigarette butts, we distributing dedicated receptacles for cigarette butts. KT&G has installed around 100 cigarette butt-only receptacles across the country through collaboration with local governments.
We also conduct marine ecosystem protection activities throughout the year. In the Busan/Gyeongnam area, we have carried out a total of 13 beach waste collection activities and underwater purification activities. The company also continuously holds upcycling exhibitions to deliver the message of environmental protection through KT&G Sangsang Madang.
An official at KT&G said, "We are expanding our eco-friendly ESG management through environmental campaigns such as the creation of Daegwallyeong Forest and Plogging, as well as marine purification activities." He added, "Moving forward, we will lead the way in various activities to prevent global warming, protect ecosystems, and solve environmental problems to enhance environmental sustainability.”
