KT&G Commences Eco-Friendly ESG Campaign 'Feel Green' 2021.07.19
KT&G (President Baek Bok-in) has launched its ‘Feel Green’ campaign for making eco-friendly practices a part of daily life in order to strengthen its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) management and lead the way in solving environmental problems.

'Feel Green' is a term that plays on the similar-sounding sino-Korean character 'p'il' (Hangul: 필, Hanja: 必), which denotes 'necessity', and in this case, it means the activities that we absolutely must conduct in order to protect the environment, and it also contains the meaning 'feel' as employees who participate personally feel the change. It consists of eco-friendly activities that can be easily implemented in daily life at work, starting with the campaign to use tumblers, and the ‘Plogging’ and ‘Upcycling’ campaigns will be carried out in stages this year.

First, KT&G has been actively carrying out the ‘Need for Containers’ campaign since July to reduce the use of disposable cups in the office and encourage the use of reusable containers. Posters were made featuring model employees to increase participation, and tumblers engraved with 'KT&G GREEN IMPACT', the company's environmental management vision, are provided to employees who need personal cups. In addition, the coffee shop ‘Sapoon Sapoon’ in the KT&G office building in Daechi-dong, Seoul, provides a ‘tumbler care service’, which involves washing of containers and discounts when bringing a tumbler.

Next, KT&G will conduct its 'Plogging' campaign in September, where employees pick up trash on the street while jogging. At the end of the year, the company plans to also implement an 'Upcycling' program in which recyclables are collected and regenerated into environmentally valuable products.

An official at KT&G said, "In order to lead the way in solving the increasingly serious waste problem and environmental protection since the COVID-19 pandemic began, the Feel Green campaign has been launched, which includes encouraging the use of tumblers." He closed by saying, "We will continue to strengthen eco-friendly ESG management that can be practiced in our daily lives.”

Meanwhile, KT&G is amping up on its ESG efforts by implementing environmental management considering a sustainable future. In May, the company unveiled its ‘Mid- and Long-term Environmental Management Vision’ and declared that it would be "carbon neutral by 2050" to respond to the climate change crisis. The company is also taking the lead in protecting marine ecosystems, including underwater and beach environmental purification activities, and at ‘KT&G Sangsang Madang’, an upcycling exhibition, is also being held to deliver the message of environmental protection.
