476 KT&G Busan Headquarters Cleans Up Songjeong Beach 2021.07.06
KT&G Busan Headquarters (Director Kim Jin-min) cleaned Songjeong Beach to protect the marine ecosystem in Haeundae-gu, Busan on July 2.

Twenty-five executives and employees of the KT&G Busan Headquarters volunteered to collect household and fishery refuse, such as discarded fishing nets, from around the beach. KT&G plans to clean up the beach three more times by September this year. The cleaning volunteer work will continue to be conducted for beaches with severe litter problems in Busan and Gyeongsangnam-do Province through consultations with the East Asian Sea Community Ocean. College student volunteers from the Busan area will also take part in this effort along with the KT&G executives and employees.

Earlier in May, KT&G signed an MOU with the Marine Environment Corporation and the civic group East Asian Sea Community Ocean at the KT&G Seoul Headquarters to promote the cause of marine ecosystem preservation. Under the agreement, each organization is currently investigating marine waste and pollution problems in Busan and Gyeongsangnam-do Province. The three organizations conducted their first volunteer work in late May to clean up beaches in three islands (Mokdo, Hyeongjedo, and Oedo) and Jinju.

Kim Jin-min, head of KT&G Busan Headquarters, said "We will continue to participate in this volunteer work to protect the marine ecosystem and keep the local environment clean. We will continue to support various environmental causes in line with our eco-friendly ESG management."

In the meantime, KT&G Sangsang Madang Busan will hold an exhibition in September this year using wastes collected at beaches, such as waste papers and waste PET bottles, to inform citizens of the seriousness of marine environmental problems under the title of "Save the SEA, Save the ART."
