KT&G (CEO Bok-in Baek) would dispatch a team of undergraduate volunteers to Indonesia on an international volunteering mission until August 10.
The 65-member volunteer team comprising 42 SangSang Volunteer university students, 12 Indonesian university student and 11 KT&G employees will be sent to Asri, economically challenged village, in Cikarang to assist in building and repairing schools and offering learning support activity.
The volunteer team will build a community service center with a library and meeting room and sports facilities including a badminton court and basketball court in Asri village short of public facilities. Arts, sports and languages education actives and building renovation will be provided for public elementary schools as well.
In addition, to offer various cultural exchange experiences, university students of Indonesia and Korea will prepare Indonesian traditional dance, K-pop dance, chorus and cheerleading to deliver the message of hope after the twelve-day volunteer activities.
A related person of KT&G said, “I hope the education and living environmental improvement will be helpful for the future talents and economic independence of Asri village. KT&G will keep supporting overseas volunteer group to meet its social responsibility as a global firm.”
Furthermore, KT&G has carried out both domestic and international volunteer actives in line with its corporate slogan ‘together’. The Company had sent 41 groups of volunteers totaling 1,180 to Cambodia since 2005. The Company also built a forestry and agriculture education center to train reforestation professionals in a bid to prevent the desertification in Mongolia. Living environment and education environment improvement activities including residential facility renovation, education and medical support have also been provided in Uzbekistan and Myanmar.
