Korea Ginseng Corporation Yebon (CEO Cheol-Ho Kang), a KT&G subsidiary, announced on February 7 that it has completed the expansion of production lines for natural herbal medicines in its plant in Cheongju.
KGC Yebon producing herbal medicine extracts such as herbal medicines acquired a BGMP certificate in January 2015 and made a foray into the raw material drug business. In order to expand the business of manufacturing the final drug product with components extracted from plants and animals, the company introduced a new production line for raw material medicines and held a ceremony to celebrate its completion on February 6 in nine months since the ground-breaking ceremony.
The completion of the plant has enabled KGC Yebon to secure not only a state-of-the-art BGMP-certified facility as excellent as those in advanced countries such as the US and Japan, but a capacity to roll out natural raw materials for drugs. As a result, KGC expects its production capacity to climb about 350% compared to the past.
The plant has 4 mass production lines and 2 experement lines for natural material extraction in a building of 42,238 sqm on 87,263 sqm lot. Facility including freeze-dryer, spray-dryer, and powdered-madicine manufactuing facility enables the plant to produce products in accordance with BGMP required by pharmacuetical companies.
"The API-CMO business is expected to grow steadily over the long term by means of the growth of the Korean natural drug market and pharmaceutical companies overseas’ clinical expansion for advancement into overseas markets," said a related person of KGC Yebon. “Based on this facility expansion, we will accelerate sales growth by promoting the full-scale commissioning of the raw material pharmaceuticals business which marks its third year in 2017."
