 KT&G (CEO Bok-in Baek) Shintanjin plant received Prime Minister award at 2016 Korea Volunteer Activity Award held on Volunteer Worker Day on December 5.

The award ceremony was held at Hwabaek Convention Center in Gyeongju City, Gyeongsangbuk Province with about 500 participants including Sung-lyul Kim, Vice-minister of the Ministry of Interior, government officers and staff of award receiving organizations.

About 700 employees of Shintanjin plant led diversified activity for local community by operating 22 internal volunteer work groups. Credit was given for the fact that all the employees, all of a mind, belong to one or more volunteer work group(s) and their work has continued rather than a one-time photo session event.

KT&G Shintanjin plant employees have helped 160 households via ‘Sarang Love Home Repair’ program which provides papering the walls, changing the heating floor linoleum, fixing the bathroom and electrical facilities by selecting one underprivileged household every month since 2003. In addition, for the last 14 years, the employees have delivered winter kimchi, rice and winter supplies for low-income household and living facility for the handicapped and senior citizens.

Jong-cheol Cho, plant manager of KT&G Shintanjin plant, said “KT&G have participated in volunteer activities over 20,000 hours a year by organizing nation-wide Sangsang Together Volunteer Group including Shintanjin plant employees. We have tried to realize ‘Co-prosperity’, one of KT&G’s core values, by helping the under privileged through KT&G Welfare Foundation and Scholarship Foundation.
